This is a video clip exemplifying the Baroque dance type "minuet," taken from the Case Western Reserve University production of "Il Pastor Fido," an 18th-century Baroque opera by G. F. Handel. Julie Andrijeski, choreographer. This fully-staged production incorporated Baroque gesture, costume, lighting, makeup and dance, as well as a complete period orchestra, and was the culmination of a three-month rehearsal process for the production's singers and dancers. The leading role of Amarilli, which in addition to vocal and acting requirements, involved execution of solo and ensemble dances, is performed here by Judith Overcash. For more examples of Baroque dances by various performers, please visit CRWU professor Ross Duffin's website at http://music.cwru.edu/duffin/ which includes a link to his complete Baroque dance database.
