Sweet Adelines International
Judith is currently an active member of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance. This independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world's largest singing organization for women: today, the membership of SAI includes approximately 600 chartered chapters and more than 1,200 registered quartets.
The international membership of nearly 30,000 women, all singing in English, includes choruses in most of the fifty United States as well as in Australia, Canada, England, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden and the Netherlands. There are also prospective choruses in Denmark, Fiji, Greece and United Arab Emirates.
Judith is a member of Lake Erie Region #17, encompassing parts of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and which boasts an impressive membership of nearly 1000 female singers from all walks of life. Members of Sweet Adelines sing in choruses, quartets, and small groups that combine singing, choreography, and camaraderie: the result is a performance that is full of fun, variety, energy, and excitement, not only for the audience, but for the singers as well!
Judith is both a member and vocal coach-in-residence for the City of Flags Chorus, which meets in Canton, Ohio. She is also a member of the Region #17 Education Team, serving as Vocal Production Coordinator for the region. She actively performs with her quartet Speakeasy, which sings both barbershop and swing vocal arrangements.
Judith is active as an educator and vocal coach for both SAI and the men's international barbershop organization, SPEBSQSA (the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America). She works on a regular basis not only with her own chorus and quartet, but also with the Independence, Tower City, and Northcoast men's choruses, as well as several men's and women's quartets throughout Ohio.
Judith has been a faculty member for regional SAI and SPEBSQSA workshops, principally teaching classes in vocal production and voice classification, and often gives private vocal lessons and quartet coaching to workshop participants. She is also responsible for training her fellow members of Region 17's Education Team in vocal methods.
